Harris County MUD 304 recently completed a Water Main Cleaning Project, also known as “pigging,” that took place from Monday, July 21 through August 5, 2025. This essential maintenance effort was carried out by Precision Utility, LLC to improve water quality and ensure the continued reliability of the district’s water system.

What is Pigging?
Water main pigging is a specialized process that uses a device called a “pig” to clean the inside of water pipelines. As the pig travels through the system, it pushes out built-up sediment, debris, and mineral deposits that naturally accumulate over time. Removing this buildup helps to:
- Improve overall water quality
- Increase water flow efficiency
- Extend the lifespan of the system
Why This Project Was Necessary
During the pigging process, large amounts of discolored water and debris were flushed out of the lines—evidence of how much material had collected inside the pipes. While this may have caused short-term water discoloration or brief service interruptions, it was a vital step in keeping the district’s water system clean and dependable.

Thank You for Your Patience
The District appreciates the patience and understanding of residents and businesses during this project. We recognize that temporary disruptions are inconvenient, but the end result is a cleaner, more reliable water system that benefits the entire community.
