Summer Safety Reminder

July 1, 2026 11:42 pm

Summer is a great time to enjoy the outdoors, spend time with family, and cool off in the water — but warmer temperatures also bring added safety risks. Taking a few simple precautions can help keep everyone safe and healthy all season long.

Water Safety Tips

Whether at the pool, splash pad, pond, or lake, water safety should always come first.

  • Never leave children unattended near water — even for a moment.
  • Young children should wear properly fitted life jackets when appropriate.
  • Designate a dedicated “Water Watcher” during swim time to actively supervise children without distractions.
  • Teach children basic swimming skills and pool safety rules early.
  • Avoid running or rough play around wet surfaces to help prevent slips and falls.

Stay Hydrated & Beat the Heat

High temperatures can quickly lead to dehydration or heat-related illness.

  • Drink plenty of water throughout the day, even if you don’t feel thirsty.
  • Limit sugary, caffeinated, or alcoholic beverages during extreme heat.
  • Take breaks in shaded or air-conditioned areas when spending time outdoors.
  • Wear lightweight, light-colored clothing and apply sunscreen regularly.
  • Know the signs of heat exhaustion, including dizziness, headache, nausea, and excessive sweating.

Pool & Backyard Safety

A few extra safety measures at home can help prevent accidents.

  • Keep pool gates closed, locked, and secured at all times.
  • Store pool toys away from the water after use so they do not attract small children.
  • Ensure rescue equipment, first aid kits, and emergency contact numbers are easily accessible.
  • Never swim alone, and encourage a buddy system whenever possible.

Let’s work together to keep our community safe while enjoying all the fun summer has to offer. Have a safe, healthy, and enjoyable summer!
