The National Weather Service has issued an Extreme Heat Warning for Harris County, with dangerously high heat index values possible. Extreme heat can cause heat exhaustion, heat stroke, and other serious health risks.
Residents are encouraged to:
- Stay indoors in air conditioning as much as possible.
- Drink plenty of water and stay hydrated.
- Wear lightweight, loose-fitting clothing.
- Avoid strenuous outdoor activities during peak heat hours.
- Never leave children or pets unattended in vehicles.
- Check on neighbors, especially older adults.
Cooling stations are available for residents who need relief from the heat.
Harris County Precinct One Community Centers are open as cooling stations from 9:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
